520 _aData gathered from three towns show that most urban dwellers undertake urban agriculture (UA) to alleviate poverty and, the reasons for its persistence resides at four contextual levels: the government; MAFS; the town councils; and the individuals. The study asserts that it is difficult to eradicate UA and, among other things, recommends for the responsible ministries to coordinate and formulate an Urban Agriculture Policy. The Tanzanian government through ministries of Agriculture and Food Security,Water and Livestock Development, Lands and Human Settlement Development, Regional Administration and Local Governments should ensure that by-laws for regulating UA are enforced for its sustainability.
