520 _aThe latest Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) house price index, a quarterly report analysing US housing price appreciation trends, shows average US home prices increasing by 12.5% between the first quarter of 2004 and the first quarter of 2005. Appreciation for the most recent quarter was 2.21% or an annualised rate of 8.82%. The new data released by OFHEO represents the largest four quarter increase since the third quarter 2004 when appreciation surpassed any increase in 25 years. OFHEO's house price index tracks average house price changes in repeat sales or re-financings of the same single-family properties.
