| 520 | _aThe need for innovation in the construction sector to improve both product and process is widely accepted. In the UK house building has often been characterised as traditional, site based and masonry dominated, partly as a function of perceived consumer conservation but also as a consequence of conservative attitudes among mortgage institutions, a reluctance to invest in innovation, and risk aversion within the construction sector itself. Whilst there are some notable exceptions the Egan report (1998) identified the weakness of this situation and advocated new approaches to both production and procurement to secure better quality, lower cost, safer and timelier production. This project will seek to extend the previous study and to focus more explicitly on the relationship between the RSL client, their in-house maintenance departments and their external professional advisors (primarily the Building Surveying Professional) in the context of an integrated team approach to the maintenance of off-site prefabricated social housing. The objectives of the project are: To identify the role that Building Surveyors can plan in an integrated maintenance team; To identify the key skills and knowledge that Building Surveyors can bring to an integrated maintenance team; To identify any gaps in skills and knowledge between what Buildings Surveyors currently offer and what the client expects; To develop educational/training materials for both client and professional stakeholders. | ||
