Key results were: 72% of new buildings were built on previously-developed land, including conversions, in 2004 compared with 70% in 2003 and 67% in 2002 and new dwellings were built in 2004 at an average density of 40 dwellings per hectare up on 34 in 2003 and 25 in 2002. Information is also presented regionally. The statistics are based on changes in land use recorded for the ODPM by Ordnance Survey during their map revision work up to the first nine months of 2005.
