520 _aThis ODPM-commissioned research on City-Regions has been published to underpin any sustained future move towards a clear national policy for City-Regions. City-regions are the enlarged territories from which core urban areas draw people for work and services such as shopping, education, health and entertainment. They are functional entities within which business and services operate. City-regional economies play a strong role in driving forward the economies of their regions. The city-regional scale reflects the geography of everyday life rather than the administrative boundaries. Four working papers on aspects of City-Regions have also been published to accompany the main report: on mapping, policy and practice lessons from France, Germany and the Netherlands, travel and regional economic development policy
