520 _aThe June edition shows trends in asking prices up to 19 June 2006. Average national asking prices rose by 0.8% (£1 613) in the last month with the average property asking price now standing at £211 442. The annual rate has increased from 5.9% to 6.4% in line with the Rightmove revised 2006 forecast announced last month. The average annual rise in southern England now stands at 9.4% in contrast to 2.7% in the northern regions. The four year trend of the northern regions catching up with southern England has come to an end as the gap widens. Property is now 55% more expensive in the southern regions than in the northern regions, up from a low of 46% in September 2005. A rise in interest rates could hit activity hardest in the regions further away from London.
