520 _aThis new voluntary code is intended as a single national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes, and will complement the system of Energy Performance Certificates being introduced in June 2007. The code measures the sustainability of a home against nine design categories and has been developed using the BRE's EcoHomes system. By integrating elements of the code into new homes, developers can obtain a star rating for a new home which will highlight its environmental performance. (See also "Code for sustainable homes: technical guide" (L137461)).
