520 _aHouse prices rose for the 14th consecutive month in December. The pace of increase eased back to the slowest in four months but it remained strong. Property sales edged up, rising 15.1% from a year ago while new buyer enquiries stabilised. However, the Bank of England's surprise decision to raise rates by another quarter point in January is likely to weaken demand in the coming months. New instructions to sell property declined for the seventh consecutive month in December resulting in the lowest stock of unsold property on surveyors books since August 2004.
