520 _aLooks at how the pressurised property markets in the US and UK will impact on the countries' construction industries. Reveals the collapse of the US housing market has already pushed the US homebuilding industry into recession. Although non-residential construction has performed better, this is unlikely to last given the wider economic slowdown in the US. While the UK construction industry is less reliant on home building, a slowdown in this area will have a negative impact. However, the UK construction industry is less unbalanced than its US counterpart; its performance in 2008 looks stable, although a drop in new orders and activity is likely in 2009.
