520 _aUNCITRAL (United Nations Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration) was created to help States in reforming and modernising their laws on arbitration, with the needs of international commercial arbitration in mind. It covers all stages of the arbitration process from the arbitration agreement, the composition and jurisdiction of the arbitration tribunal and the extent of court intervention, through to the recognition and enforcement of the arbitration award. The UN Model Law was first adopted in 1985 and has now been implemented as it stands into domestic legislation in over sixty countries and in an amended form in many others. In July 2006 a number of amendments were made to reflect changes in commercial practices and to strengthen the Law.
