The findings include owner occupation remaining the most common form of tenure, with 70% of those surveyed. Renting is considerably more prevalent in London, where owner occupation stands at 56%. The proportion of younger householders (aged 25-29) who are in privately rented accommodation has risen from 19% in 1993, to 36% in 2006. London has the highest overcrowding (6.6%), while the South West has only 1.5%. Second homes in England have risen by 20% in the last ten years and those abroad have more than doubled in number.
