520 _aReports that in the third quarter of 2008, construction workload growth declined, with 38% more chartered surveyors reporting a fall than a rise. 41% more chartered surveyors expect workloads to decrease. The government target to build two million new houses by 2016 seems hard to reach. The private housing sector workload continued to fall, with 60% more chartered surveyors reporting a fall than a rise. Large scale public projects also experience the effects of the credit crunch and may have to be delayed or reduced to obtain funding. Infrastructure starts to report difficulties. As to regional performances, London started to experience workload falls on the private commercial sector. The other regions recorded faster falls in commercial activity. Expectations in workload, employment and profit margins remain negative.
