520 _aSurvey reports a slight improvement in the RICS house price balance. The net balance of Chartered Surveyors reporting a fall than a rise in house prices improved from -84.5 to -81.8 in October. The average number of transactions per surveyor (over the last three months) fell to 10.9%, setting a new low for activity since this survey began in 1978. London is at the bottom of the activity league, reporting 6.4 sales by surveyor. New buyer enquiries and newly agreed sales balances are still negative but improved for the sixth consecutive month. Inventory of stocks on surveyor's books dropped to 80.7 in October, largely as a result of sellers opting to rent out their properties as opposed to selling them in the current economic climate. This is the lowest level since December 2007. Despite the continued falls across a range of indicators, the balance of positive opinion across the market continues to improve, despite the fact that the authors suggest that further price falls are likely in the near future.
