From July to September 2008, there were around 22,200 new house building starts in England, down by 33% compared with the same quarter in 2007. 33,300 houses were completed, representing a fall of 18% compared to the same quarter in 2007. For the 12-month period leading to September 2008, the estimate for house building starts is 126,700, a 26% decline compared with 2007. However, the figure for completions for the same period is 154,300 and corresponds to a decrease of 9% from the 12-month period leading to September 2007.
