Updating the Estate Agents Act 1979 to allow new players into the market would encourage competition. Further regulation is unncessary but calls for enforcement of current rules to guard against serious breaches. Consumers are urged to negotiate hard on commission fees and consider using alternatives to traditional estate agents such as online services.
