520 _aLooks at the performance of European housing markets in 2009, analysing trends across the continent in areas such as inflation, building activity, mortgage markets and turnover. A significant number of European residential markets showed signs of revival from Spring/Summer 2009 and further revival is expected in 2010. House prices rose by 12% in Norway, by 8% in Finland and by 7% in Sweden and by 1% overall in the UK. Germany, Italy, Netherlands and France show moderate falls of between -4% to -6% whilst Ireland, Spain Greece and other central and eastern European countries were the worst performers. Low interest rates and central bank support for mortgage markets have played key roles in bringing about recovery in the European housing market. For full report, see L149448.
