520 _aThis paper examines the use of land and property information systems by local authorities in England and Wales. A number of important lessons for the future are discussed. There is much evidence which suggests that the primary use of land and property information systems is to support administrative tasks. This is an important conclusion when it is borne in mind that, in the early days of discussions on the design of land and property information systems, it was envisaged that most of the output from such systems would be for management.
