520 _aThe Surveyors' Club was founded in 1792, with its first meeting of 16 members being held at the Shakespeare Tavern in Russell Street, London. Meetings took place every month until June 1853, when the frequency was reduced to 10 meetings a year. Following the foundation of the Club, membership remained stable at around 25 members. Many members of the Club were also members of the Surveyors' Institution (later the RICS), with some being members of the Royal Insitute of British Architects or Institute of Civil Engineers.
