520 _aReport is published, 'Social and economic change and diversity in rural England' by the Rural Research Centre established by Defra. This was published alongside a review of the Rural White Paper, 'Our countryside: The future, a fair deal for rural England', which was published in November 2000. The new report presents the findings of an analysis of the 2001 census and other information regarding social and economic characteristics of rural areas of England. The review of the Rural White Paper reveals that it was going in the right direction for rural policy and supports its objectives for sustainable rural development.
