490 _aHealth and Safety Executive Press Release
_v(C019:04) 20 May 2004 (2)
520 _aThe new duty to manage asbestos under the Control of Asbestos at Work 2002 regulations comes into force on 21 May. This gives enhanced protection for building and maintenance workers from the fatal diseases caused by asbestos. The duty will require anyone responsible for the maintenance of commercial, industrial or public properties or the common areas of domestic properties, to check for asbestos and properly manage the risk. About 3 500 people die every year in Britian due to exposure to asbestos many years ago, before it was banned. For the HSE press release: http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2004/c04019.htm
