520 _aThe seasonally adjusted index for retail sales at constant 2000 prices was 1.6% higher at 122.7 in the three months to April 2004 than in the previous three months. Between March and April 2004 the volume of sales rose by 0.3%. Based on non-seasonally adjusted data, the average weekly value of retail sales in April 2004 was £4 600m, up 4.6% on a year earlier and 3.8% up on March.
