_v(194/04) 21 May 2004 (2)
520 _aDEFRA is consulting on the government's proposals to extend the Energy Efficiency Commitment (EEC) post-2005. The EEC's next phase running from 1 April 2005 for six years will require electricity and gas suppliers to provide increased help to their consumers to save energy. The EEC is key to the government's carbon abatement objectives in the household sector and also contributes to the alleviation of fuel poverty by requiring suppliers to focus about half their energy efficiency activity on low-income consumers. The EEC consultation is available at http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/eec/inde x.htm. The response deadline is 13 August 2004. http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2004/040521a.htm
