| 520 | _aFrom 16 July the new landfill directive (Directive 99/31/EC) comes into play. This will see the number of landfill sites permitted to accept hazardous waste from construction sites drop from 279 to less than 15. Currently construction materials make up 92% of waste going to landfill, of which 43% is hazardous. As a result of this directive, the recycling industry is expecting an increase in purchases of equipment such as shredders and screens.
