520 _aExamines the various ways social enterprise is currently contributing to urban regeneration. Considers the competing definitions of social enterprise, estimates the size of the social economy in the UK and enlarges on the government strategy for creating an enabling environment for social enterprise. Gives a wide range of examples of how social enterprises are involved in urban regeneration activities in England and Wales. Analyses the strengths and weaknesses of social enterprises in respect of their regeneration role and concludes that their main but not necessarily exclusive focus seems likely to be in developing human capital to complement physical regeneration projects.
