520 _aAccording to research carried out by Arup as part of a study for the DTI, entitled "Futureproofing our buildings" (http://www.arup.com/ard/project.cfm?pageid=3297), global warming could make naturally ventilated offices virtually unusable for one quarter of the year. The report recommends that siestas, going home in hot weather, longer holidays, relaxed dress codes and relocating offices to the cooler north of Britain will be the only way that office workers of the year 2080 will survive roasting summers and office temperatures of 39°C. Designers and developers will need to change the design of buildings if they are to remain in use as climate change takes place.
