520 _aThe European Commission has significantly increased the amount of money that France receives in order to support its rural development programmes for the next two years. The amount has been increased from Ł879m to Ł1.075bn - a rise of 22%, whereas Spain, Italy, Austria, Finland and Sweden have all seen their 2006 allocations cut. The UK is relatively unaffected. The allocations are adjusted according to the amount of money a country actually spends each year, combined with forecasts of what it needs to meet its future rural development objectives.
