| 520 | _aNew research from Barclays bank reveals that 288 888 new firms have been started up in the first six months of 2004, almost a quarter more than the same period last year (233 000). The increase could be due to the large rises of people becoming self-employed to boost their income or achieve a change in lifestyle. Regionally, London led the way with local authorities filling the top eight places (Westminster and the City at number one with 368 new businesses per 10 000 people of working age). Three of the top 10 areas for start-ups outside of London were innorthwest England - with Blackpool leading the way with 139 new businesses. http://www.newsroom.barclays.co.uk/ | ||
