520 _aPart J of the Building Regulations sets out requirements for, air supply; discharge of products of combustion; protection of buildings and the protection of liquid fuel storage systems. The current Approved Document, which gives guidance on how to satisfy Part J, dates from 2002. The primary driver for reviewing Part J in 2010 was a need to take account of changes in air tightness standards for new homes which could have an impact on the safe operation of Combustion Appliances. The Government has also made commitments to review the guidance on Biomass Appliances and the provision of carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. Advances in technology and changes in construction practice are reflected in the document.
