| 520 | _aA Times survey suggests that the well-publicised mortgage rescue schemes will have little effect on reducing the number of repossessions. Gives details of the scheme launched by the Halifax Building Society in the form of a loan of £18m to four housing associations to purchase property under repossession, thus allowing the occupants to become tenants. The Halifax initiative follows the announcement of Nationwide Anglia`s mortgage to rent scheme. Looks at the range of schemes available following the Council of Mortgage Lenders latest figures on mortgage repossessions which show that number of repossessions have risen by 72% between 1990 and 1991. National Westminster Bank and Leeds Permanent Building Society have also launched their own mortgage rescue schemes. | ||
