520 _aThe Urban Development Grant Scheme has been operating for four yearsand has recently been joined by Urban Regeneration Grants . This article outlines the advantages of the UDG over the more traditional grant schemes, from both the public and private sector points of view and analyses why the number of successful schemes has been so low. Claims that the introduction of URGs will not overcome the shortcomings of the UDG and that there is an urgent need for a reappraisal of the scheme.
