| 520 | _aBefore the Building Act 1984 came into force only local authorities had the power to exercise building control in the UK. Part II of the Act provided for a privatised form of building control by giving similar powers to approved inspectors to those enjoyed by the local authorities. In 1985 NHBC Control Services Ltd gained approval under the Act to carry out certain building control functions. This article examines the relevant provisions in the Act, the operation of building control by the private company and the implications of the first prosecution brought under the Act: NHBC Building Control Services Ltd v Sandwell BC (Abs43458). | ||
