520 _aIn considering planning applications from developers for golf course development schemes on historic parklands , planning authorities are urged to make use of statutory powers available ensuring that applications are accompanied by a good environmental assessment taking into account how the historic character of the site can be preserved and restored by careful landscaping and good design and management techniques. Special interest groups such as the Garden History Society Georgian Group and English Heritage can be consulted for advice with the latter producing a " Register of parks and gardens of special historic interest. A number of authorities have included historical sites in designated conservation areas whilst PPG16 requires any development on sites included on county sites and monuments record to have a full evaluation of the historic nature of the site and nature of proposed developments.
