520 _aProblems with service charges in the commercial sector may occur where there is a variation clause as part of the lease. These clauses give a landlord license to redefine the range of services provided or change the method of charge calculation, and disputes naturally arise. The article discusses the sources of conflict: variations of service, property covered, charge levied, tenants` share and argues in conclusion, for legislation to introduce the practice currently employed in residential flat leases .
