| 520 | _aCA 26 April 1991. The appellant, G, had occupied the flat in question for ten years. The building had three floors, the ground floor being occupied by Barclays Bank and used as its banking business. The upper floors were divided into four flats. G occupied one. In 1978 the whole building was let to Barclays for a term of 25 years. Also in 1978 the freehold reversion was sold to the respondents, B. In July 1979 Barclays sublet a flat to G for a term of two years. This lease was renewed at various intervals, the final being in 1985 for a period of two years and thereafter month to month. In April 1989 Barclays assigned the remainder of the term of their lease to another company who in their turn surrendered it to B. In January 1990 B served notice to quit on G. G held over claiming to be entitled to the benefit of the Rent Act 1977. In March B issued proceedings for possession. G claimed to be statutory tenants on the grounds that their periodic tenancy could have the Act applied to it | ||
