520 _aDiscusses the current debate over fire safety in building design between those concerned purely with loss of life and those trying to minimise damage to buildings and contents. The Loss Prevention Council is critical of the new approved Document B (dealing with fire safety in the new Building Regulations) and has introduced its own code of practice. The Standing Committee on Structural Safety`s ninth report warns that in its opinion designers are paying too much attention to active fire protection measures such as sprinklers whilst passive aspects such as attention to building materials are often ignored which are important if the active measures fail.
