520 _aIn Steward and another v Rapley , CA 13 February 1989, it was held that where a surveyor acting for an intending purchaser had surveyed a property negligently and failed to report a defect which he reasonably ought to have discovered, damages could properly be assessed on the basis that the actual market value of the property was its market value in the condition in which the surveyor had negligently stated it to be less the cost of work necessary to put it into that condition.
