A negligent valuer who causes loss to a mortgagee will have to pay interest on the loss not simply from the date of the loan nor from the date of the judgment but from the date when the loss was sustained. A court has no jurisdiction to award damages on costs orders but an appeal court does have jurisdiction to award interest on repayable damages and costs arising from correcting the decisions of inferior courts.
