Previously secure tenants had a statutory right to a shared ownership scheme, but changes were made by amendments to the right to buy provisions in Housing Act 1985 Part V by the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993. Also considers the right of tenants of registered social landlords who have the preserved right to buy. This change was made following enactment of the Housing Act 1988 Part I.
