520 _aDiscusses the effect of the rise in stamp duty on sales above £250,000 in the property market. In place of the old rate of 1% on properties over £60, 000, stamp duty is now 2.5% for properties worth £250,001 to £500,000. Nick Gibb, Shadow Treasury minister believes the duty has created an incentive for law-abiding people to fabricate deals to avoid the tax.
