Appeal by defendant surveyors (G) against sheriff court decision awarding damages against G for alleged negligence in a survey report of a house purchased by the pursuers (C). C purchased the house on the strength of the report. The house was later discovered to have dry rot . C, a married couple who lived in Scone, decided to move to Dundee as the husband was employed there. C raised the purchase price by obtaining a mortgage of 22,500 and a bridging loan of 23,000, used to redeem the mortgage of 9,000 on their house in Scone. C intended to repay the bridging loan from the sale proceeds of the house in Scone. Dry rot was discovered before C moved in and they decided to take the Scone house off the market and remain living there with the husband commuting to work. To pay for the repair work on the Dundee house C took out a second mortgage of 12,000 on the Scone house. The Sheriff held that G had been negligent and awarded damages rep
