520 _aResearch by Deloitte and Touche reveals that 88 call centres were opened in 1999, up from 58 in 1998. More than 35,000 jobs were created in the UK and Ireland. Ireland was the most popular location securing 18% of new centres, followed by Scotland with 15%. Though Scotland topped the league table with 18% of jobs going north. Growth patterns look set to continue, with moblie phone network operators creating the most call centres, followed by the financial services industry.
