520 _aStigma associated with remediated contaminated land is the blighting effect on property values caused by perceived risk and uncertainty - such factors as an inability to effect a total 'cure', risk of failure of the remediation method, risk of changes in legislation or clean up standards, difficulty in obtaining finance or just fear of the unknown. Summarises initial results from a study of market sales data of post-remediated residential land in Western Australia. This ongoing research is attempting to estimate the amount of stigma arising from a site's contamination history and measure the effect on residential property values. Findings show that although there is a negative effect, this can be offset by the positive influence of additional amenities in the neighbourhood. Includes literature review and references.
