520 _aLooks at the 'Delft Model' for dealing with housing allocations and considers whether it would work in the UK. The model works on the simple premise that vacant local authority housing is advertised in free newspapers rather than people going on a waiting list. In Holland, this system reduced the waiting list by two thirds as it showed that many people on the waiting list no longer wanted a property. It also allowed applicants more choice in the home they were allocated.
