He estimated that work-related illness is costing the construction industry an estimated £760m a year. In addition, illness caused by working in the construction industry is resulting in the loss of around 25,000 workers annually. Employers were urged, in partnership with employees and the trade unions, to safeguard the health and safety of workers for both financial and humanitarian reasons.
