_v(1392) 27 October 2000, 21(1)
520 _aA new high level working group - the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) Built Environment Working Group - has been set up to advise government on improving access to the built environment for disabled people. At its first meeting on 30 August the progress of the government's consultation on the draft code of practice on the 2004 provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) was discussed. Suggests that with the introduction of the DDA there are likely to be many more planning applications, as employers and service providers adapt their buildings to comply with the Act. Advises local planning authorities to start reviewing their own policies, to ensure that they themselves are not discriminating against disabled people in the way they are providing the planning service. Suggests that the DPTAC working group will be a great asset to those working in the field of planning and access.
