The report was commissioned by the DETR to help government understand the changes occurring in the construction and materials products sector. A key finding is that with the growth in the use of IT in the industry, suppliers are having to respond and change the way they do business. The report suggests that the internet's range of uses represents an opportunity as well as a threat for those in the sector. Contends that, as a matter of urgency, every business needs a flexible strategy for how it will do business electronically in the future. Failing to exploit what the web can offer could prove fatal for building materials suppliers.
