A survey on the use of e-commerce for business transactions was conducted by the UK Construction Industry Computing Association and Construction Products Association in March 2000. Although the survey found that current use of e-commerce only accounts for 5% of all transactions, this figure is expected to increase to 50% within the next 5 years. Key advantages of e-commerce are perceived to be faster transaction time and reduced costs, while concern has been expressed about initial set-up costs and the risk of no personal contact.
