520 _aExamines the US approach to the regeneration of smaller towns. The National Main Street Center has aided the successful regeneration of 1,800 small towns and neighbourhoods across the US. Interested communities follow a four point approach which covers design, organisation, promotion, and economic restructuring. Successful projects have highlighted the importance of demonstrating frequent visual changes to encourage businesses and the community that regeneration is underway. The Main Street Program provides a structured approach to small town regeneration, and in this context the model could be useful to the UK if extended to include housing and transport.
