A continuing trend in QS is the advancement of value engineering, the aim being to provide maximum value while maintaining specification and performance. IT has automated processes for assessing tenders and unit rates, so consultants can add value by concentrating on analysing results. Suggests there has also been a move towards project leadership and management consultancy as new roles for cost consultants. Concludes that while core services will continue to be provided by consultants, they will need to broaden their skills to encompass other areas.
