BT intends to roll out ADSL to 70% of the UK by the end of 2001. However, a number of rural areas are missing from the waiting list, because of the high cost of installing ADSL in relation the number of customers served, and the physical limit on the range of access. Looks at alternative methods of delivering broadband services and suggests that RDAs will need to persuade ICT providers of the business advantages of new networks in rural areas.
